4/5/11 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

It is not a proven fact that antibiotics cause weight gain, in fact, there's a lot of conflicting research out there.  However, my consultant at JC writes down anything that has changed to cause a person to gain in the previous week.  If I've gained the first thing she asks me is if I'm taking an antibiotic.  She's noticed that most of her clients have an increase in weight gain when they're on them; which is what I'm hoping my problem is this week.  I just got on the scale this morning and I had gained .6.  When I did look up the possibility of a weight gain it said that antibiotics affect your digestive system which makes it more difficult for your body to break down the food your eating.  One source wrote that antibiotics break down the healthy bacteria in our digestive system which helps metabolize fat and when this is disrupted it negatively effects our metabolic systems.  Who knows but there must be something to it if my consultant notices a trend?
