5/25/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 25. May 2010 19:39

Today was field day for our kids.  Yes, it was a sunny, hot day of about 86 degrees.  But, wow, was I saddened at the sluggishness that is prevalent with many of our students.  Even though it was hot there were plenty of water games, water bottles, and a spray coming from a fire truck to cool kids off.  There were two games in particular that many of our students wanted to opt out of:  relay races and potato sack races.  Again, it was hot, and I don't deny that.  But, after the first leg of the race many of the kids were down like fallen flies.  They were whiny and trying anything they could to get out of it.  It makes me disappointed because if those things somehow involved video games they would be out there in a heartbeat.  Again, with a nation facing obesity problems so many of our young kids (I'm talking nine and ten years old) are out of shape and overweight.  The obsession with video games as well as overweight children is alarming and there does not seem to be any end in sight.  How can we stop this horrible trend?!
