Today my exercise is considered manual labor. Now that we have moved to a farm there is so much to do outside! In a few weeks we are having a housewarming party and while we are entertaining we want to be able to have a bonfire. My husband and I spent the morning digging a huge fire-pit and collecting large creek rocks to place around the perimeter. The rocks were some heavy lifting. But, the best part was, once again, it was the kind of exercise where I didn't have to "think" about it. We spent several hours digging and lifting while our dogs had free roam. It felt so relaxing and enjoyable spending time together doing something we love. That is definitely my favorite kind of exercise - I was exerting a lot of energy and I hardly even noticed it! The only down side to so much activity is that my appetite increases tremendously. I was ready for lunch by 11:00 and I had just eaten breakfast a few hours before. I made sure to drink a ton of water throughout the day since I sweat so much out and increased my protein level for dinner. This helps balance out all the calories I burned while working in the yard. Remember, you don't want to starve yourself of calories or your body will just store any food it does receive as fat since it doesn't know when it's next meal may be. Finding the right balance of calories along with your activity level is important. This is why it is necessary to listen to your stomach and learn when you're truly hungry.
